FAQ’s Regarding Breast Augmentation Surgery

Dr. Laurence is one of the area’s most awarded cosmetic surgeons. He performs all approaches to breast augmentation surgery, guaranteeing you beautiful and individualized results.

Common questions regarding your breast augmentation surgery may include:

What are the different approaches to breast augmentation surgery?

Transumbilical breast surgery is often unexpected in that a saline implant is inserted through the belly button. This means there is virtually no scar. However, if you’d like options in your choice of implant – there are many other methods available. Transaxillary surgery is performed by making an incision in the crease of your underarm, areolar surgery allows the implant to be placed through the center of the breast at the areola, and inframammary surgery calls for an incision in the fold underneath each breast.

How do I know which type of surgical approach is right for me??

During your initial consultation, Dr. Laurence will discuss with you your current breast size and tissue type, your desired size, and your body type and proportions. He will determine which type of implant and surgical approach is best for you and discuss your options to help you make an informed decision.

What are the different types of breast implants?

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. They’re inserted empty, and then filled once they’re placed in the chest. Silicone implants are slightly more popular than saline, and are pre-filled with silicone gel. Many women feel that silicone breast implants look more like their natural breasts.

How visible will my scar be? ?

Each of these approaches involves a different amount of potential scarring, but we make every effort to minimize visible scarring. With transumbilical surgery there is virtually no scar, and scarring is normally very minimal with other approaches.

How soon can I return to work after my breast augmentation? ?

This greatly depends on what type of work you do and how you respond to surgery, as every patient is different. Most of our patients are able to return to work within days.

Are there any risks to breast augmentation surgery?

Just as in any other surgical procedure there are risks involved. Some patients may be sensitive to anesthesia, while others may be prone to significant scarring. While generally rare, the most common risks associated with breast augmentation include scarring, pain, infection, temporary loss of breast sensation and implant leakage.
