Every year, many women get tummy tuck procedures and get great looking results. A flat stomach with no love handles or ‘muffin top’ spilling out over your jeans or bikini feels great and can immensely add confidence. But before undergoing a full tummy tuck, you may want to consider whether you need a full one, or if you can get away with having a mini tuck.
A full tummy tuck involves your doctor making an incision between your belly button and pubic hairline, with sometimes a second incision around the navel. The skin is pulled tautly up to give a smooth, flat appearance. Sometimes liposuction can be done during a tummy tuck if excess fat is making the ‘tummy pooch.’
A mini tummy tuck, on the other hand, uses a horizontal incision on the bikini line where it will not be visible. The lower tummy is flattened by pulling the skin down, and trimming excess off.
So which surgery is best for you?
A mini tummy tuck is a simpler procedure that will require less downtime, and creates a much less visible scar. But it is not for everyone. Mini tucks are ideal for people with normal body weight, with just a small, lower belly pooch. If you have excess fat, saggy skin above your belly button, or have lost a lot of weight and have a lot of excess skin, you’ll need a full tummy tuck.
